President John Dramani Mahama has announced a reshuffle of his government, introducing changes to three key ministries.
Under the changes, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation-designate.
The nomination forms part of changes announced by the Presidency on Friday, August 7, 2026. The appointments have been submitted to Parliament in accordance with Article 78(1) of Ghana's 1992 Constitution, meaning the nominees will require parliamentary approval before formally taking up their positions.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley and has previously been involved in discussions on environmental protection and development issues within her constituency. Her new nomination places her at the centre of government efforts on environmental management, science, technology and innovation.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who previously served as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence. His move comes as part of the President's efforts to reorganise responsibilities within the government.
Following the reshuffle, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Banda, has been reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The President has also nominated Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate. His nomination will also be subject to parliamentary approval.
The changes come at a time when the government is dealing with several important national issues, including environmental protection, housing and infrastructure development, local governance and national security.
The movement of ministers between portfolios is expected to bring new leadership approaches to the affected ministries. However, the nominees must first go through Parliament's vetting and approval process before their appointments can be confirmed.
The reshuffle has already attracted public and political attention, particularly because of the appointment of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry and the transfer of Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to Defence.
President Mahama's latest reshuffle has brought significant changes to several ministries. With Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings nominated for Environment, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei moved to Defence, Ahmed Ibrahim taking over Works, Housing and Water Resources, and Mahama Ayariga nominated for Local Government, attention now turns to Parliament's approval process.
