Newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has declared his commitment to helping the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, win the 2028 presidential election.

Okoe Boye made the declaration after winning the NPP's Greater Accra Regional chairmanship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He secured 490 votes, defeating Alfred Boye, who polled 172 votes, giving him a 318-vote margin.

In a message following his victory, Okoe Boye thanked constituency executives for their support and described the election result as a strong endorsement of his leadership.

He subsequently turned his attention to the broader task ahead, saying his work would extend beyond the regional elections to helping the NPP regain political ground in Greater Accra and nationally.

“We shall not rest until we make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia President of the Republic of Ghana,” Okoe Boye said in his message.

His comments come as the NPP seeks to rebuild its political structures following its performance in the 2024 general election. The party suffered significant losses in Greater Accra, falling from 14 parliamentary seats to five.

Okoe Boye will therefore face the task of strengthening the party's grassroots organisation across the region. Greater Accra is particularly important to the NPP's plans for the 2028 election because of its large electorate and the number of parliamentary constituencies it contains.

The newly elected chairman is expected to work with constituency executives and other regional party officials to improve mobilisation and reconnect the party with voters.

His immediate political challenge will be balancing the NPP's internal reorganisation with preparations for the next general election.

Bawumia, who is the NPP's flagbearer for the 2028 election, will also be relying on the party's regional structures to build support ahead of the presidential contest.

Okoe Boye ended his message by thanking Greater Accra constituency executives for their confidence and declaring, “The Restoration Begins!”

Okoe Boye's victory gives him a new mandate to lead the NPP in Greater Accra, while his declaration in support of Bawumia signals an early focus on the party's 2028 presidential campaign.
