The Ghana Police Service has arrested 52 motorcycle riders following an operation targeting alleged unlawful motorcycle racing along the George Walker Bush Highway near Villaggio in Accra.

The operation was conducted on Sunday, July 26, 2026, by the Airport Divisional Police Command as part of efforts to curb dangerous riding and unlawful activities involving motorbikes on major roads.

According to reports, the operation also resulted in the impounding of 71 motorcycles. The seized motorcycles included 25 registered Royal motorcycles, 26 unregistered Royal motorcycles, five power bikes and 15 scooters.

The arrests highlight growing concerns about motorcycle racing and other dangerous riding activities on public roads. Such activities can pose risks not only to riders but also to pedestrians and other road users.

The Police Command is expected to continue investigations into the incident and determine the appropriate action against those arrested.

Authorities have repeatedly urged road users to obey traffic regulations and avoid activities that could endanger lives or disrupt traffic.

The arrest of 52 riders and the seizure of 71 motorcycles demonstrate the Police Service's determination to clamp down on unlawful motorcycle racing in Accra.
